ASIA KAKEHASHI STATE LEVEL EXPERIENCE

MY EXCHANGE YEAR JOURNEY- JAPAN EXCHANGE

Hello everyone, so as you can see from the title that I am going tell a bit of being an exchange student in Japan, so basically I am not departing yet but I am literally co
nfirmed will be exchanged one month from now on, thus imma tell you about this programme and how to get into that and eventually get selected as a finalist.

so basically this programme named ASIA KAKEHASHI PROJECT  this programme is under the organisation AFS(American Field Service), and this programme is full funded. This programme is a 10-month period. the reason that I choose to get exchange instead of furthering my studies is that I always wanted to experience high school moment in another country so the only method is that to get exchange, i actually don't really pick japan as my first country to get exchange but I chose US because i know everyone has a dream to experience US high school isn't?like high school musical haha. i applied two programme which are KL YES( exchange programme to US) and AKP, and both of them are fully funded( I cant afford exchange programme fees cs it was very expensive), but I wasnt shortlisted in the KL YES programme for state level interview, however I get to be shortlisted in AKP programme, well that time I don't really excited because japan is not my first country(it just plan B) yet I don't really interested in Anime. but what  I literally shock is that there are only 3 students that was shortlisted in my state(sabah), so I feel that I did well in my essay , oh I forgot to tell you that when you are applying this programme you have to do some essays which gonna specify whether you are the one that they want or vice versa, so I did it.

so next I am gonna tell you abt the state level interview, so basically the interview was held in SMK SANZAC KK. I am quite nervous one day before the interview day because I had never gotten any formal interview session, I literally search interview tips and common  interview question in the internet and practice all day that I even stay up late until 3 AM!!!!! well I had my vision which HARD WORK PAID OFF!!!!so I practice non-stop until I can remember all the points. so the day of the interview, I started to be faked to even be an extrovert person that turned out I am very shy to start conversation, luckily my friend (my classmate) also been selected so he being my power to be confident, so basically I came from a high performance school( SABAH SCIENCE SECONDARY SCHOOL) so that also make me proud and get me to be more confident because the ice-creaking session i introduce my self and what school I came from, then everyone like, DAMN!!HE'S AN INTELIGENT STUDENT, so what can I do just smile and show my professional action(politeness), I was clarified that they will be activities that need us to gathering as a team, so im getting scared because im afraid that they will  have bad perceptions towards me because I don't really can speak English really well because I don't come from English background( we talked malay), at the same time I tried to memorize all the points. so you know what I do, I went to toilet times just to memorize the points while all the participants are enjoying the activities, hahahahahahah. so when my name got called , I am very nervous that all the points like gonna lost in no time, so I tried to be relaxed instead of trying to remember the points, so when it comes to the interview, I just lost because the first question that was asked was , WHY YOU CHOOSE JAPAN? damn im stunned that thinking a bit, that question really ruined all my points because I expected their first question is , TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF, so I have to answer it directly. But I remember my teacher said that interview is like you selling yourself so you have to tell them what are the BEST you had to even get selected to the national interview, so I literally just tell them I know their culture their races even im totally know nothing , but what I realised that I did that made me to pass the state level is that I don't stop telling them what activity that ive been through whether international yet national until they asked me to stop, hahahhaah, so I actually had participated in many Robotics international competition that I had represented my school to CROATIA,KOREA,HONG KONG, so I think that are bonus, but don't worry if don't really participated much, you can tell that you are a really good dancer that you can perform your national dance to Japan, or maybe telling them that you can cook Malaysian delicacies which you will introduce to Japanese people with those foods. So, after finishing the interview, I had to join the activitities while waiting other participants to be interviewed. After 3 weeks, when I am on my way to my school dinner with my school, I borrowed my friend's phone to check on my Instagram then suddenly my friend Mabel DM me that I was shortlisted in the national interview list and shockly I was the only one from Sabah thus that makes me proud somehow. so I went to dinner with a joy knowing that I was shortlisted with the other 53 students from all over Malaysia. so imma continue this blog then, but if anyone of you wants to ask for tips , feel free to ask me by DMing me through Instagram ( @nikkifli ) or email (mohdnick88@gmail.com)
Thanks , and good luck who are applying,
